IRNA Chief meets Sofia mayor on sidelines of NAWC

Sofia, June 14, IRNA - Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) met with the Mayor of Sofia during his trip to Bulgaria to attend the 6th World Congress of the news agencies (NAWC).

The meeting was held on Thursday afternoon on the sidelines of the dinner party, where the Mayor of Sofia hosted in honor of the presence of the world's leading news agencies' chiefs.

In a meeting with Yordanka Fandakova, Seyyed Zia Hashemi praised the hosting of the World Congress of News Agencies in Sofia, saying that a large number of Bulgarian people consider themselves Iranian, and this has given him a good impression.

Fandakova also called Iran a country with an ancient history, and thanked the IRNA Managing Director for participating in the congress in Sofia.

On Thursday, Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency in a meeting with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev discussed media cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 6th News Agencies World Congress that started work in the Bulgarian capital on Thursday.

Hashemi reviewed consultations with his Bulgarian counterpart and exchanging media delegations.

Meanwhile, Radev appreciated Iranian delegation’s presence in this congress and hailed IRNA chief’s initiatives.

Chiefs of important news agencies from 130 world countries are present in the Sofia event.

The three-day news event, which was inaugurated by the opening speech of the Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, is to focus on the Future of News.

IRNA chief is to address the congress on June 14 to voice Islamic Republic's media opinions.

On the sidelines of the Sofia news congress, Hashemi held talks with several of his foreign counterparts on bilateral and international issues.

News Agencies World Congress is being held every three years.
