FM spox urges Europe, Germany to help preserve JCPOA

Tehran, June 10, IRNA - Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi in a message on Monday urged Europe and Germany to help preserve Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by their practical initiatives.

"We believe that, despite the US sabotage, Europe and Germany can contribute to saving the JCPOA and promote peace and stability in the region by adopting practical measures and initiatives, Abbas Mousavi wrote on his Twitter account on Monday.

He added that the Iranian and German foreign ministers in a meeting on Monday had constructive and good talks on long-standing and bilateral relations, including the JCPOA and de-escalating tensions in the region.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas arrived in Tehran to hold talks with Iranian officials on preserving Iran nuclear deal.

German Foreign Minister Maas' visit to Iran has been drawn under limelight of the media and political observers regardless of his earlier visits to the three other West Asian countries.

Earlier in Baghdad, speaking in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, the German foreign minister said that Germany and the European Union honor their commitments to the JCPOA.

He added that the EU has set up a mechanism to ease the US sanctions and to maintain financial transactions with Iran.

Maas noted that his Tehran visit aims to highlight Iran's staying in the JCPOA.
