Foreign Minister Maas visit to Iran has been drawn under limelight of the media and political observers regardless of his earlier visits to the three other West Asian countries.
During his stay in Iran, German top diplomat is scheduled to hold meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President Hassan Rouhani.
Earlier in Baghdad, speaking in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, the German foreign minister said that Germany and the European Union honor their commitments to the JCPOA.
He added that the EU has set up a mechanism to ease the US sanctions and to maintain financial transactions with Iran.
Maas noted that his Tehran visit aims to highlight Iran's staying in the JCPOA.
Maas said in Baghdad that the German government supports Iraq's role in the region especially helping de-escalation of between Iran and the US.
