Iranian karate athletes advance to China finals

Tehran, June 7, IRNA – Iranian karate fighters Bahman Asgari and Ali Karimi advanced to final stage of the 2019 Karate 1 - Premier League in Shanghai, China.

The 2019 Karate 1 - Premier League Shanghai started with the attendance of 543 karate fighters from 76 countries in Shanghai, China.

Iranian male and female squads participated in Kata and Kumite categories to receive 2020 Summer Olympics quota.

The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad and commonly known as Tokyo 2020, is an upcoming international multi-sport event that is scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.

Iranian fighter Bahman Asgari in the weight category of – 75kg and Ali Karimi in – 67 kg entered the final match.

The final and qualifiers match will be held on Sunday.

Karimi defeated rivals from Russia, Hungary, Italy and France.

In semi-final stage, he hit Thai rival and advanced final stage.

He will stand Venezuela on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Asgari hit rivals from Morocco, Pakistan and Japan.

After defeating his Turkish rival, Asgari advanced to final match.

In final match, he will fight with Uzbekistan.
