Iraq not to remain silent in face of US anti-Iran sanctions: Hakim

Baghdad, June 5, IRNA - Leader of the National Wisdom Movement of Iraq Seyyed Ammar Hakim, rejected the US unilateral sanctions against the Iranian people, and said that Iraq would not remain silent or impartial in the face of the US pressures and sanctions against Iran.

The high-profile Iraqi figure in the sermons of Eid al-Fitr prayer on Wednesday emphasized that Iraq due to its geopolitical position, which lies at the heart of the conflict between Iran and the United States, must play a leading role in resolving regional crises.

He said Iraq must prioritize its own most important interests and national security in line with its independent national policy, so if regional countries seek to safeguard stability, security and peace, then they have to make their interests and national security meet at one certain point.

Stating that Iraq has paid immensely for long-term wars, economic blockade, invasion and occupation, terrorism and organized extremism, Hakim highlighted that it was high time people used this experience to look forward and deal with historical complexities and think about the opportunities and ways to use them in the interests of Iraq.

He went on to state that Iraqi people will not be impartial towards the US anti-Iran measures "and will condemn America's unilateral sanction policy against our Muslim nation and our brother in Iran, especially since we are more than any other nation have tasted of the sanctions in the 1990s."

The Iraqi cleric further emphasized that Iraq will maintain its authority and independence in national decision-making, and not allow any irresponsible internal affairs. Internal integration is a national priority and the main introduction to the success of Iraq's moderate foreign policy.
