Iran becomes member of OIE presiding board

Tehran, May 29, IRNA – Iran together with Japan and Malaysia has been elected to the presiding board for Asia and the Pacific states of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) .

The World Health Organization held an election for Asia and the Pacific, so that Iran, Japan and Malaysia were elected for the OIE presiding board among five states taking part in the election.

According to Iranian Agricultural Jihad Ministry, the election was held in presence of China, Japan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Iran.

The OIE is an intergovernmental organization coordinating, supporting and promoting animal disease control.

This is the first time for Iran to become member of the OIE presiding board for Asian and the Pacific.

Asia and the Pacific branch is one of the most important section of OIE which consists of 32 countries.

Iran active presence in OIE conference two years ago has made great achievements like holding OIE regional conference on Foot-and-mouth disease in Shiraz, OIE agreement to do assessment for Iran Veterinary Organization, Iran's membership in Asia and the Pacific sector working group and finally its membership in presiding board.

The 87th OIE General Conference is underway in presence of Representatives of 180 countries and 15 Agriculture ministers in France.

Head of Iran Veterinary Organization met with his Turkmen and Armenian counterparts on the sidelines of the General Conference.
