Turkmenistan keen on media cooperation with Iran

Tehran, May 28, IRNA – Turkmenistan Ambassador to Iran Ahmed Gurbanov on Tuesday stressed the need for promoting cooperation between Tehran and Ashgabat in the field of media.

Touring Islamic Republic of News Agency (IRNA) on Tuesday, he voiced his country’s readiness for reopening IRNA’s office in Ashgabat.


In a meeting with IRNA chief Seyyed Zia Hashemi, he submitted an invitation letter to him to take part in the Economic Conference of Caspian Sea Littoral States, saying, “IRNA is the most important media outlet of Iran and is of high significance for us since it is an official and state-run media outlet.”


Economic Conference of Caspian Sea Littoral States will be held in Turkmenistan, Avazeh, with high-ranking state and private sectors’ officials of the littoral states in attendance.


Hashemi, for his part, welcomed expansion of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, hoping that Turkmen ambassador’s visit to IRNA will serve as a turning-point in the mutual cooperation on media.


He declared his efforts to revive Union of Caspian Sea Littoral States News Agencies ‘and called on the Turkmen government to help to materialize the plan.




“Paying attention to neighboring states and covering their events if of high priority for IRNA,” Hashemi said.
