Iran: Signing of non-aggression pact promotes trust building

Tehran, May 28, IRNA - Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Tuesday that signing of non-aggression pact will help promote confidence-building among countries in the region.

Araqchi made the remarks on the last leg of his regional tour taking him to Qatar in a meeting with Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Tuesday.

Setting up a 'Dialogue Assembly' among Persian Gulf littoral states and signing of non-aggression pact can promote confidence-building in order to experience constructive interactions with the neighboring countries, Araqchi said.

Referring to mounting economic pressures exerted by the US, he said restoration of full security in the region to be met in line with national and economic security of all countries.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always played its prominent role in meeting security of the region but the US, Zionist regime and their followers should accept their responsibility in dealing with the aftermaths of the created tensions, Araqchi said.

Iran does not rule out negotiations with the US, but underlines that priority should be given to entering into dialogue with the countries in the region, he said.

In the meeting, Qatar's foreign minister, for his part, welcomed exchange of visits between the two sides' high-ranking officials and expressed concern over complicated situation in the region and called for continued talks between the two countries.
