Zarif leaves Baghdad for Tehran after three-day visit

Baghdad, May 27, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Baghdad for Tehran after a three-day visit to the Iraqi capital.

He held talks with Iraqi President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi and Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi as well as Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohamad Ali Alhakim.

During the meetings, the Iranian foreign minister said that Iran invites the Persian Gulf regional states to sign a non-aggression pact and that the proposal is still on the table.

Zarif also met with a number of Iraqi political leaders including, Ammar Hakim, the head of the National Wisdom Movement, Hadi al-Amiri, the head of Badr Organization and the leader of Fateh Alliance, and Ayad Allawi, the head of al-Wataniya (National) coalition and former Iraqi prime minister.

In the separate meetings, the foreign minister thanked the efforts made by the Iraqi government for de-escalation in the region.

Zarif also appreciated the Iraqi government and nation and all the political parties of the country for supporting the Iranian people and government against the bullying of the United States.
