FM Zarif attends Iraqi PM's Iftar banquet

Baghdad, May 26, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif participated in an Iftar Banquet held by Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.

During the ceremony, both sides discussed regional and world issues, ways to prevent negative effects of sanctions and also current threats against regional countries especially Iran and Iraq.

They also stressed the importance of safeguarding the region and reviewed issues related to Iran's nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the results and agreements made after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's visit to Iraq and also those of Abdul-Mahdi's trip to Tehran.

Zarif arrived in Baghdad on Saturday at the head of a high-ranking political delegation and welcomed by the Iraqi deputy foreign minister Nezar Kheirollah.

Earlier, he discussed bilateral ties, regional and international development with Iraqi President Barham Salih and Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq Mohamed al-Halbousi.
