US government worried about Iran: Expert

Tehran, May 25, IRNA – The senior analyst for Middle East affairs Abdel Bari Atwan said on Saturday that the Donald Trump's administration, known for pursuing harmful and perilous anti-Iran measures has changed his tone.

In an article released in Al-Ray-Al-Youm newspaper on Saturday, he added, "The new remarks made by the US government indicate their state of anxiety in dealing with the Iranian crisis. The last words uttered by the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo stating that the United States was not looking for regime change in Iran, but the goal was to change its behavior.

"None of these goals will be materialized, because firstly: the US government is afraid of war, secondly, the Iranian system will not change its behavior under the economic pressure, thirdly Trump is a coward businessman, and a fourthly is a skilled liar.

Atwan went on to say that the ruling elites in Iran know that Trump is against the war in Iraq and calls for the withdrawal of American troopers from the Middle East region and is more afraid of entering into an unpredictable war with Iran.

"The argument is true that America as a powerful country is capable of attacking targets in Iran, as they did in Iraq, but trigger of any military confrontation, the United States will be severely wounded, while the international community will witness the emergence of powerful countries that compete with the US, so the United States needs to maintain its greatness and military arsenal and combat readiness, he said adding that in fact neither Iraq nor Vietnam and Afghanistan were removed from the map of the world.
