Iran FM visits US NGO elites to thwart pressure, Mousavi

Tehran, May 25, IRNA – Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said that Foreign Minister conferred with Non-Government American politicians to neutralize conspiracy against Iran and communicate with the US public opinion.

Explaining on Foreign Minister Javad Zarif's meeting with an American senator, Mousavi said, "It is over two decades that meetings have been held by US non-government political elites, including Congress people with the aim of clarifying Iran's policies."

"They are neither state officials nor are they authorized to negotiate," he said denying reports that there have been or will be any negotiations with them.

"The goal of such meetings—that take much energy and time of the foreign minister during his intensive schedule—is to prevent the influence of pressure groups such as 'Team-B' in the US political spectrum and public opinion," Mousavi said.

"That's why such meetings provoke strong reactions and anger of the US hardliners," he said.*
