Leader warns about intrusion of other languages in Persian

Tehran, May 21, IRNA – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei is anxious about interference of other languages in Persian Language by transfer of terminology.

'I'm really worried about the Persian Language because, generally, that is eroding,' said Ayatollah Khamenei in reference to replacing genuine Persian words by foreign words.
The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with Persian Language poets late on Monday evening on the eve of the auspicious birth anniversary of Imam Hassan, the second Imam of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) Household.

He criticized the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting for using wrong words or, even worse, foreign words, replacing the correct standard Persian language.

'Don’t let the Persian Language get eroded and derelict.'
He also criticized the use of poorly-made phrases in some songs and TV series, saying, 'Persian Language has been safeguarded by renowned poets and we have inherited that. Thus, we need to keep that as well, and not let carelessness to destroy it.'

During the meeting which started after breaking their fasts at Iftar time, the poets recited their poems before the Leader.

Every year on birth anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS) in the middle of Ramadan, poets meet Ayatollah Khamenei.

He said that poetry is a method of safeguarding national identity, which puts the poets among the standard-bearers.

'The identity is of great importance, because if a nation loses that, they will be dissolved and obliterated by the hands of the enemy.'

Some 29 poets read their pieces in the Leader's presence.
