Iran hails intra-Venezuelan talks hosted by Norway

Tehran, May 18, IRNA – Iran on Saturday welcomed talks between Venezuelan government and the opposition in Norway, expressing hope that the talks would lead to a political settlement.

Praising the political initiative, Abbas Mousavi, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said Saturday that the dialogue can lead to a political solution through which Venezuela can regulate its economy and remedy the livelihood of the people.

The spokesman citing to the damaging effects of foreign intervention in the internal affairs of the South American country, said, 'by blocking and looting the financial resources of Venezuela, the US has been exercizing a collective punishment on the country's people.'

He urged Washington to abandon economic terrorism and its illegitimate acts against humanity in Venezuela and let improve the livelihhod of the Venezuelan people.

Reports coming over the past two days indicated that representatives of Venezuelan government and the opposition initiated negotiations in Norway to find out alternative solutions to the political stalemate in the country.

The crisis which revolves around the future leader of Venezuela has engulfed the oil-rich country over the past months.

The disputes between the country's President Nicolás Maduro and the opposition's leader Juan Guaido have been escalated by some states' interventionist moves, including the Washington blocking the Venezuelan government access to oil revenues and enabling the opposition to take control of the country's diplomatic property in the US.
