Pakistan worried about Iran-US escalation in Persian Gulf

Islamabad, May 16, IRNA -- Pakistan said on Thursday it is concerned about Iran-US escalation and deployment of aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammad Faisal said in response to a question at his weekly press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday that the US decision to deploy aircraft carrier and bombers have added to tensions and the existing precarious security situation in the Middle East.
“We expect all sides to show restraint as a miscalculated move can transmute into a large scale war,” he noted.
Reiterating Pakistan’s position, he said the country supports settlement of all issues through dialogue.
Responding to a question of IRNA, the Pakistani spokesperson said: We are regularly in touch with Tehran on bilateral issues.
Earlier Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had said the government was fully aware of regional developments and carefully monitoring the Iran-US escalation.
In his briefing to National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, he said that the US, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have special views towards Iran which is not only affecting the region but the US-Europe ties as well.
He said that a new regional situation is evolving and Pakistan is carefully analyzing that. He warned that if the situation deteriorates it could engulf the entire region.
