Iran actively contributing to int'l events: NDMO

Tehran, May 15, IRNA - Head of the Iranian National Disaster Management Organization (NDMO) Mohammad-Esmaeil Najjar said on Wednesday that history indicates that Iran has always played an active role in contributing to international events and disasters.

Najjar, heading an Iranian delegation to the 6th 'Disaster Risk Reduction Global Platform', made the remarks in the meeting.

Iran a home to natural disasters has always welcomed disaster risk reduction and spares no efforts to carry out its duties in the field, he said.

Iran has provided a comprehensive plan to seriously deal with earthquakes, floods and droughts, Najjar said.

Over 235 cities and 4,304 villages have been affected by the recent massive floods and about 71,000 cities and rural houses have been demolished and over 100,000 of houses have been damaged, he said.

He also criticized the US disloyalties in blocking shipment of humanitarian aid to the flood-stricken people in Iran.
