Iran-Turkmen delegations review issues of mutual interest

Tehran, May 13, IRNA – The Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmen delegations kicked off a joint meeting on Monday presided by the two countreis' foreign ministers in Ashgabat.

The two delegations met and discussed issues of mutual interests along with both counterpart ministers of oil, road and energy.

The meeting was jointly chaired by Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and his Turkmen counterpart Raşit Meredow.

The two sides discussed technical issues in terms of economy and trade together with relataive significant achievements in the field.

Zarif, heading a high-ranking economic delegation, arrived in Ashgabat on Sunday for a series of talks with senior Turkmen officials.

Earlier today, he met with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

The Iranian foreign minister and Turkmen officials discussed various bilateral, regional and international developments.

Iran and Turkmenistan share over 1,000 km border including the Caspian Sea coastline.

The two sides enjoy a very good relation since Turkmenistan won independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991.
