European tourists tour Gonabad monuments

Gonabad, May 12, IRNA – Head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism organization in Gonabad Alireza Shenasaei said on Sunday that some 14 European tourists visited historical monuments and tourists attractions in the city.

Speaking to IRNA, he said these tourists were from Germany, Italy, Belgium, Britain and Malta who toured various parts of the city mainly Ghazabe Qanat (kariz) which has been registered by UNESCO.

Following registration of Ghasabe Qanat by UNESCO, the number of foreign tourists who toured the region has increased, he said.

Some 250 historical monuments have been identified in the region and some 144 have been registered as the country's national assets, he said.

Some 60 tourists attractions in Gonabad date back to thousands years ago, he said.

The city of Gonabad with 89,000 population is located south of Mashhad in Razavi province.
