Iran resistant to all kinds of pressures: Ex-Chinese envoy

Beijing, May 12, IRNA – A former Chinese envoy to Iran expressed assurance that no pressure would bring Iran to its knees as it is a civilized country with diverse resources.

Referring to the pressure being exerted by the US President Donald Trump on Iran, Hua Liming, former China's ambassador to Tehran, told IRNA that Iran with its ample resources could survive any kind of sanctions.

The circumstances Iran faced during the imposed war by the former Iraqi dictator was far worse than what it is facing currently, the Chinese diplomat said.

Hua, also a member of Iran-China friendship association, said he believes that Iran, just as it overcame the Iraqi-imposed war hardships, would be able to leave behind the sanctions.

The nuclear deal was a major step to save peace in the Middle East, Hua Liming said referring to the deal under which Iran agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

Washington withdrew unilaterally from the deal in May 2018, calling it the worst deal the US has ever entered, and re-imposed sanctions on Iran.

Hua described the US unilateral pull-out, as a main cause of escalation in the region, saying that negotiations, but not confrontation, is the only way out of the stalemate.

China has supported the deal and will remain committed to it as the country's Foreign Ministry has announced, the former ambassador affirmed.
