Mount Sabalan up for globalization

Ardebil, May 12, IRNA – Director general of Ardebil Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department announced plans to register the 4,811-meter Sabalan mountain at the global heritage list.

Nader Fallahi added during the visit of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization’s director general for maintaining and restoring from Ardebil cultural heritage projects that registration of Sabalan Mountain in the global heritage list will be carried out after necessary studies are conducted.

Calling for holding a scientific seminar on prospects of the mountain’s globalization, he noted that it will help better introduce the mountain and pave the way for global registration of Sabalan Mountain.

Located in the extreme northwest of Iran, Sabalan (4811m) is the third highest mountain in Iran after Damavand (5609m) and Alamkouh (4851m).

The mountain offers many attractions throughout the year. On the slopes of the mountain the mineral water from springs attracts large numbers of tourists each year, many of whom have faith in healing properties attributed to the springs.

According to some beliefs, Mount Sabalan was the place where Zoroaster meditated for some years, so it is one of the important sacred places in Zoroastrianism.
