Iran capable of handling American pressure: Pak ex-envoy

Islamabad, May 4, IRNA -- Former Ambassador of Pakistan to Russia says Islamic Republic of Iran is a sovereign state that has the capacity to counter American pressure.

In an interview with IRNA, Ambassador (R) Mohammad Khalid Khattak said the US is in a habit of putting sanctions on this and that country.

After withdrawing from Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and re-imposition of unilateral sanctions against Iran, the US had agreed to let eight countries, including China, Japan, India and South Korea, Taiwan, Italy and Greece keep buying Iranian oil.

However US President Donald Trump later decided not to renew waivers that allow eight countries to buy Iranian oil without facing Washington's sanctions.

“Look, Americans are playing with Iran because Iran is sovereign country,” Mohammad Khalid Khattak said.

He said Iran has the capacity to counter American pressure. The expert on international affairs said that sanctions is a tactic to put pressure on Iran.

“Ending waivers against Iran is big news, but for me it is not a breaking news, it is usual as the US is in a habit of putting sanctions on this and that country,” former envoy said.

He went on to say that fairness is a moral act not a political act even I am against the use of term sincerity in the talks because it is a moral attribute. He added that politics is an alignment of interests, convergence of interests and divergence of interests.

Mohammad Khalid Khattak added that one can condemn American action and say that it is immoral.

The analyst said that the basic reason that the US is pursuing a very aggressive policy towards Iran is the influence of Zionist regime on American politics.
He added that Israelis have been playing games in the region of Middle East.
