Foreign countries relying on Iran's gas exports

Tehran, May 2, IRNA - Managing Director of National Gas Company of Iran affirmed that the global markets were not confident about Iran's gas exports in the last years, but by fulfilling its commitments in contract with Turkey Iran now has given this assurance.

On the sidelines of the first day of the 24th Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition, Hassan Montazer Torbati on Wednesday went on to say that the gas industry has had downward and upward trends, but in progress, and now, after 50 years of the gas industry, it is approaching to a near 100% development of the gas network coverage and will complete the gas network in the next two years.

Deputy Minister of Petroleum pointed out that in addition to access to large gas reservoirs, we are self-sufficient in designing and building the network as well, and went on to say, 'This issue is a strength point, but it has its own considerations. Iran brings clean energy to everywhere and develops social justice, however, it is important to pay attention to sustainability.”

According to Tarbati, the sense of sustainability returns to several factors, the most important of which is the durability of production, and due to the increase in the production of South Pars, gas production is in good condition.

He pointed to pipeline networks and pressure boost stations, adding that the gas network in the country has spread and even floods have shown that the pipelines are well maintained.

Managing director of the National Gas Company of Iran reiterated, 'Gas network is a network that extends from production to consumption and also has the ability of import and export gas to neighbors.

He also pointed to self-reliance on supply, saying, 'We are not worried about the goods because the domestic production sector has grown and as the national gas company has developed, the production capacity of the components has been expanded.”

Referring to the fact that the national gas company should enter into the international sector, the official highlighted that it should be noted that gas exports must first be expanded and new markets should be found, as well as the export of LPG (liquid gas) and technical and engineering services are on the agenda.

On the export of gas to Pakistan and the possibility of a complaint, the director of the National Gas Company made the remark, 'In Pakistan, we still have not reached the conclusion in the political department that a complaint must be made. Trips have taken place and we expect the case of Pakistan is solved.'

Tarbati added, 'We are disagreeable with Turkmenistan on demands. There were debts on our side and they had debts which, according to the total calculations, were not very large.'

He said the amount of gas transported in the past year was 750 million cubic meters per day, stressing that the amount of gas from the refinery was 800 million cubic meters, and “we hope the gas transfer capacity will reach 1 billion cubic meters per day by the end of the current Iranian year(starting in March 21).'
