US sanctions, blatant violation of human rights, CESCR: Mousavi

Tehran, May 1, IRNA – The US economic terrorism against Iran is a blatant violation of human rights and International Covenant for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

The US regime does not believe in human rights and has not right and legitimacy to introduce itself as the so-called advocate of the human rights, Abbas Mousavi said.

Mousavi said that shamefully, the US kept silent toward crucifying 37 political dissidents and religious minorities in Saudi Arabia.

He expressed indignation at US Administration's declared stand that it sells out human rights in return for Saudi money.
'The White House is currently using the human rights issues for political and economic benefits.'

Expressing disgust over US economic terrorism against Iran, Mousavi said that the White House violates Iranian Economic, Social and Cultural rights enshrined by the UN Covenant.

The spokesman referred to violation of rights of the minority groups, export of billions of dollars of arms to crack down civilians in other states, torture of prisoners in dangerous prisons and unilateral sanctions against other nations as total disregard of Human Rights and urged Washington to review its policies.

The Iranians do not need the US's warmongering and deceptive support, he added in reaction to the White House officials' provocative remarks to appeal to Iranian people.
