Iran, Iraq unity exemplary: Navy commander

Tehran, May 1, IRNA – Iran and Iraq are outstanding examples of Muslim unity and they can provide the security of the Persian Gulf region, a top Iranian military official said Wednesday.

The Commander of Iran's Islamic Republic Guard Corps (IRGC) Naval Forces, Admiral Alireza Tangsiri in a meeting with Commander of the Iraqi Naval Forces Major General Ahmad Jasim Maarij said that the enemies are trying to divide Muslims, but despite all plots, there is an exemplary affection between Iran and Iraq which is rooted in their religious and ethnic commonalities they have shared since the ancient times.

'The two are unique when it comes to Muslim nations' unity', he said.

'Enemies are certainly scared of the unity among the Muslims in the region, and therefore, if the unity is established their presence in the region would lead nowhere,' the Iranian commander added.

Sympathy, unity and solidarity among Muslims can prevent rise of Takfiri groups like Daesh (ISIS), he said.

The Iraqi commander, who is heading a military delegation in a visit to Iran, said for his part, that Iraq wants the relations with Iran to further develop and deepen.

He went on to appreciate the coordination between Iran's IRGC and Iraq's al-Hashd al-Shaabi with other forces in fighting and defeating terrorism.

He expressed hope that the two nations do not let the enemies to interrupt their unity.

Defense- maritime cooperation, broadening defense coordination between the Navies of the two countries, educational, scientific, research and academic cooperation, as well as joint technical and engineering projects are among the main issues addressed by the two sides.
