Pakistan increases number of troops along Pak-Iran border

Islamabad, April 29, IRNA - Spokesperson of the Pakistan Army says that Pakistan has increased the number of troops along joint border with Iran.

Director General (DG) of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor said this is while responding to a question of IRNA's Correspondent at a press conference with local and international media at army headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday.

He said: We have not only increased the number of our forces on the border, but also increased surveillance of sensitive points on the border misused by terrorists and miscreants.

The spokesperson added Frontier Crops is a force to ensure peace and security of Balochistan province and nowadays they are also guarding border with Iran.

He said FC force is divided into two parts North and South and the southern FC is responsible for maintaining peace on joint border with Iran.

In response to another question of IRNA, Major General Asif Ghafoor said that currently there is no information available about the fate of some abducted Iranian border guards.

He added Pakistani security forces had conducted a successful operation last month on the tip-off that four Iranian border guards were shifted by the terrorists into Pakistani territory, but we do not know about the fate of the rest of the border guards.

Responding to another question he said that you cannot equate Pak-Iran border with Pak-Afghan border. 'Pak-Iran border is the border of peace,' said the army spokesperson.

He said we have no threat from the border with Iran and militaries of the two countries have excellent cooperation to maintain security and peace in border region.
