Iran's share to increase in Iraq pharmaceutical market

Baghdad, April 23, IRNA – Visiting Iran’s Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education Saeed Namaki and Iraqi Trade Minister Mohammad Hashem Abdolmajid agreed on increasing Iran's share in Iraqi pharmaceutical market.

Based on the statistics, Iran-Iraq trade exchanges volume was $8 billion during the last Iranian calendar year and Iran's share was just $15 million.

Namaki said that 100 pharmaceutical companies are supplying 97 percent of drug needs inside the country.

He expressed Iran's readiness to maintain joint investment and establishing companies in drug manufacturing field inside Iraq.

Meanwhile, Hashem Abdolmajid underlined the fact that supplying pharmaceutical needs through neighboring countries is a priority for Iraq.

Iran's health minister, heading a delegation, arrived in Baghdad at the invitation of his Iraqi counterpart.

A number of local officials and Majlis representatives are accompanying health minister.

Referring to a memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed earlier between the two countries' health ministries, he pointed out that the issue has nothing to with the US unilateral sanctions, as the two countries are trying to further improve bilateral relations.
