US frown or smile not important to Iran: Judiciary chief

Ahvaz, April 19, IRNA – US frown or smile is not important to the great Iranian nation as the country's youth are able to resolve the problems despite Washington's sanctions, Iran's judiciary chief said.

Speaking in a local ceremony on Thursday, Ebrahim Raeesi referred to the US sanctions which prevented dispatch of humanitarian aids to the flood-effected regions in Iran, and said that America's frown and smile will not affect the Iranian nation.

The Iranian youth have trust in God and will remove the obstacles in the way powerfully, he added.

Raeesi said that Americans suppose they can cripple the Iranian nation by blocking their financial accounts, but this great nation will resolve the problems and the Americans will fall into disgrace.

The Iranian nation showed its unity by their huge turnout in helping the flood-affected region, he added.

Two million Iranians have been affected by intense rain and flash floods along with landslides and rivers bursting their banks, claimed the lives of scores of people and displaced hundreds of thousand.

Many countries and humanitarian agencies offered their help, but, the US sanctions were impeding the cash to be sent to Iran's Red Crescent Society through international banking system.

'No foreign cash help has been given to the Iranian Red Crescent society. With attention to the inhuman American sanctions, there is no way to send this cash assistance,' the Red Crescent said in a statement days after the flood in Iran.

Also, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said earlier that the US sanctions - reimposed after Washington quit a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers - were impeding aid efforts to flood-stricken towns and villages.

'Blocked equipment includes relief choppers: This isn’t just economic warfare; it’s economic TERRORISM,” he said on Twitter.
