Zarif, Assad discuss issues of mutual interest

Tehran, April 16, IRNA – Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif discussed issues of mutual interest with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Tuesday.

Heading a delegation, Zarif arrived in Damascus to meet with the Syrian top-ranking officials.
He was welcomed by Syrian deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad.

Zarif told reporters at Damascus airport that the goals of his two-day visit to Syria are to follow up the field victories against terrorism, coordinate the policies of the regional countries and review ways to advance dialog in Syria to reach a political solution.

The visit focused on discussing various dimensions of mutual relations, most important regional issues, the latest developments about Astana initiative of leaders of the regional states, and the agreements made during President Hassan Rouhani's visit to Syria.
