Pakistan committed to secure border with Iran: Report

Islamabad, April 8, IRNA -- A leading Pakistani Urdu news daily reports that the country’s civil and military leadership is committed to secure borders with Iran.

Daily ‘nawa-i-waqt’ said that Pakistan in order to show its commitment for the purpose has decided to fence border with Iran.

The report quoting sources said that the decision has been taken after Iran gives green signal to Pakistan’s proposal.

'Nawa-i-waqt' said that Pakistan has decided to put fence on 970-kilometers-long border with Iran on the advice of military leadership.

It said that the fence would be installed like Pak-Afghan border; however, it would have various opening points to facilitate border trade.

According to the report, Pakistan also wants Iran to install some part of the fence on common border with its own resources.

Earlier spokesperson of the Pakistan Army, Major General Asif Ghafoor had told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that Pakistan and Iran were considering fencing the common border to stop terrorists from carrying out their activities in border regions.

Nawa-i-waqt in its report further added that in order to secure border with Afghanistan, Pakistan military had started putting fence on joint border in the first quarter of 2018. The report quoting official sources said that it is expected that the work would be completed by the end of this year.
