Iran prepares bill to counter US possible act against IRGC: MP

Tehran, April 7, IRNA – A senior lawmaker said on Sunday that Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) has prepared a double-urgency bill which will be approved in case the US takes possible measures against the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the remarks at the parliament open session held in Tehran this morning.

“The Trump administration is preparing to designate Iran's IRGC a foreign terrorist organization,' the Wall Street Journal, a New York-based international daily quoted the US officials as saying on April 5.

Falahatpisheh said if it happens, Iran declares the US military forces as a terrorist group like Daesh (ISIS).

The member of parliament went on to stress that the IRGC has played effective role in the fight against terrorism, and the US step to designate IRGC as a terrorist group will practically serve terrorists.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the move was designed as 'a step that would vastly escalate the American pressure campaign against Tehran, but which has divided the US officials'.

In a related development, 255 out of 290 Iranian lawmakers issued a statement on April 7, stressing that the Majlis will respond reciprocally to any measure against the IRGC forces.

Majlis through its statement described IRGC as one of the great achievements gained after the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.
