Nowruz marks the first day of the first month (Farvardin) in the Iranian calendar. It usually falls on March 21 or the previous or following day, depending on where it is observed.
The diplomatic missions including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrghyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and United Nations have set up their food and crafts stalls in one day cultural event.
The President visited the Iranian stall which was center of attraction at the event. He lauded the efforts of Iranian ambassador and cultural counselor for making the event a success.
The Iranian stall displayed photographs of Iran’s tourist attractions, handicrafts, pistachio, gaz candy, saffron, and delicious Iranian cuisine.
Foreign ambassadors, diplomats, Pakistani officials and citizens also visited the Iranian stall and praised the rich Iranian culture and enjoyed the traditional Iranian food.
The students of various schools also performed on the songs of participating countries. The songs of all the participating countries were also played in the festival.
Based on the joint recommendation of Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan in 2010, Nowruz was added to the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Though Nowruz is basically an Iranian festival, it is also celebrated in many areas of Pakistan. It is celebrated in northern Gilgit-Baltistan region, many parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan, some parts of Balochistan, including its capital Quetta.
