Young Iranian artist wins US photography award

Tehran, Feb 27, IRNA - A young photographer from the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz won the second prize at the 76th International Festival of Photography America known as Pictures of the Year International (POYi).

Mohammad Baqqal-Asghari who took part in the event’s ‘Issue Reporting Picture Story’ section with the photo collection of ‘Victims of Family Marriages’ won the POYi Photography Festival’ award which is being held in the categories of news photos on sports, advertising, multimedia, and editing, poy.org wrote.

Baqqal-Asghari was born in 1995 and has been working as a freelance photographer and journalist in East Azarbaijan and Tehran provinces for about seven years.

The first prize of this section went to freelance photographer Alessandro Cinque for his ‘Espinar, Broken Land’.

The photography festival was first held in 1944 with the support of the Missouri State School of Journalism, and annually, around 48,000 works from all over the world are submitted to the festival’s secretariat, of which 240 works in 40 sections are eventually selected for participation.

The festival is one of the oldest and most prestigious press competitions in the world.
