Iran, Syria discuss latest developments

Tehran, Feb 27, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem in a phone conversation reviewed latest regional developments.

Both sides also discussed bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest.

Earlier, in a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Syrian President Bashar Assad said that the Syrian government and nation are always thankful of Supreme Leader and Iranian government and nation’s support to the country in fighting terrorism, and said, 'I am in Tehran to convey the appreciation.'

Today, Syria enjoys further stability and security compared to that in the past, Assad added.

In a separate meeting with Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Assad appreciated Iran for its incessant supports to his county, saying that Syria war was similar to the eight-year imposed war on Iran.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran stood alongside us sacrificially,” he said.

Iran and Syria boast of identity and ideology and today’s achievements have been attained through standing alongside the resistance movement, he noted.
