Foreign health tourists inject 1.2b dollars into Iranian economy

Tehran, Feb 26, IRNA- Head of the Health and Medical Tourism Department of Ministry of Health and Medical Education said that the foreign health tourists have injected about $ 1.2 billion dollars into the Iranian economy in 2017.

Saeed Hashemzadeh made the remarks while addressing a press conference at the 4th Health Tourism in Islamic countries in Homa Hotel on Tuesday.

He said that the Ministry of Health in 2017 provided healthcare to 270 to 300,000 health tourists, mostly from neighboring countries.

According to the official, these tourists received a variety of healthcare services in 166 hospitals across the country.

Hashemzadeh added that health tourists are mostly from Afghanistan, Iraq, Republic of Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Oman, and in a smaller number from Europe and the United States.

He added that the Ministry of Health will develop infrastructure projects for health tourism development next year.

The official further said that 'in the next Iranian year (to start in March 21), the Health Tourism course will be established in the postgraduate and doctoral level at the universities of medical sciences and we will be training health professionals from next year.'
