Legacy of ancient Jundishapoor University must be revived: IRNA Chief

Dezful, Feb 26, IRNA - The Director General of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) says the symbol of the ancient Jundishapoor University should be revived to help better introduce the world's oldest university.

Seyyed Zia Hashemi said on Tuesday at the 2nd Jundishapoor International Congress at the University of Jundishapoor, Dezful, that 'according to the teachings of sociology, the formation of a university does not occur in a social vacuum. Therefore, the establishment of the Jundishapoor University 1,750 years ago indicates that there are special capacities in this area.'

He recognized the legacy of Jundishapur as very precious, highlighting that 'Despite the great environmental, social and cultural capacities, about 18 centuries ago, an important and universal scientific center was formed in the area which paved the way for the formation of the university.

The official went on to say that 'with the establishment of the Jundishapoor University, extensive scientific and cultural interactions in this area have emerged, transforming this into a transformational center of the world.”

IRNA chief highlighted that Jundishapoor University was established as the forum for the thinkers of the world. With the cultural development caused by the establishment of Jundishapoor , the Iranian identity was strengthened in ancient Jundishapoor and became the source of self-esteem and dignity of Iranian nation.

Hashemi further noted that the establishment of the Jundishapoor University of Dezful, with the presence of professors and students from different countries in different languages, has messages to us and shows that 1,750 years ago, in this geographical point, dialogue and the teaching of scientists at the global level were carried out which is of particular importance.
