Jondishapur University symbol of Iranian wisdom, intellect: Official

Dezful, Feb 26, IRNA - The secretary general of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO described the 1750-year-old Jondishapur University of Dezful as the symbol of Iranian wisdom and intellect.

Hojatollah Ayoubi, on Tuesday, told the 2nd Jondishapur International Congress that, 'Ther freedom in science, along with the Iranian wisdom and intellect prevailed at the University of Jondishapur.”

'While in today's world, morality is a missing link which is a major issue in UNESCO, our doctors in ancient Jondishapur had a moral charter,' he said, stating that scientists from different countries were freely studying science.

The secretary general of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO added that the doctors of Jondishapur Dezful, along with medicine, were learning theology and ethics, and adhering to ethics.

He said the ancient Iranian physicians in the university treated the poor for free and were subject to respect morality.

The 2nd Jondishapur International Congress is underway on Tuesday and Wednesday attended by some international researchers.

The historical city of Jondi Shapour (Gondi Shapour) is located in south of the present Islamabad village, 5 km southeast of Dezful, on the Dezful-Shushtar route.
