Iran has high capacity for export of medicinal herbs: Official

Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA – Iran has high capacity for export of medicinal herbs to the global market, senior Iranian official said on Monday.

This product has a high capacity to become an alternative to the oil exports if its production and export get enough attention, an official affiliated to the Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO) Tarrahom Behzadi told reporters on Monday.

Behzadi said that Iran's share of the 50-billion-dollar global market stands at 20 million dollars.

8,400 types of medicinal herbs are produced in Iran of which 2,400 are exclusve to the country, he added.

The official said that Iran is the only producer of 1,728 types of medicinal herbs and regretted that in spite of all these capacities, Iran's share from the global market is inconsiderable.
