Iran, Iraqi Kurdistan Region form prisoners exchange committee

Erbil, February 24, IRNA- The official in charge of relations between Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government with Islamic Republic of Iran announced that a seven-member committee has been formed on exchanging Iranian prisoners in the Region with Kurdish prisoners in Iran.

Abdullah Saleh, director general of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government Relations Office, told reporters that the seven-member committee for the exchange of prisoners was set up and soon 70 Iranian prisoners detained in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region were to be delivered to Iran's authorities for the remaining of their sentence’s term.

He added that “Measures have begun for the exchange, but because these actions are still not completed, we cannot consider a specific day for the exchange of prisoners.”

The Iraqi official added that 40 Iranian detainees in Erbil and 30 detainees in Sulaymaniyah will be exchanged.

Abdullah Saleh said, 'The exchange involves those who are not political prisoners, have no personal plaintiffs, and people themselves are willing to be exchanged.'
