Navy to launch missiles from under surface in Velayat-e 97 drill

Tehran, Feb 22, IRNA- For the first ever, the Islamic Republic Navy will launch missiles from under surface on Friday, said Commander of the Islamic Republic Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi.

Khanzadi told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Thursday that the launching will be part of the “Velayat-e 97” war game, underway from February 22-24.

The senior commander noted, 'The “Velayat-e 97” drills of the Islamic Republic Army's Navy will be conducted for three days in a region of two million square kilometers in the Strait of Hormuz, the Makren coast, the Oman Sea and the north of Indian Ocean.'

The naval commander recalled that the exercise has four stages and said, 'In the first stage the surface floating units, submarines, flight and all equipment and weapons that are needed to be prepared for expansion in the second phase, run the sea parade.”

Admiral Khanzandi went on to say, “In the second phase, in order to practice a real naval warfare , a drill will be conducted in the form of blue and orange, and part of the equipment of the navy group is defending the regions under navy.'
