Caspian littoral states able to resolve all related issues: Russia figure

Baku, Feb 19, IRNA - The Special Representative of the Russian President says that the Caspian littoral states are able to resolve all issues related to this sea without meddling of foreigners on a five-way basis.

In an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the Summit of the Supreme Working Group of the Caspian Sea littoral states in Baku, Igor Bartchikov added that this issue includes both the security issues and the economic and political cooperation of the Caspian littoral states.

He stated that the Caspian littoral states had a great deal of cooperation in recent years, and by signing the Convention on the Establishment of the Caspian Sea Legal Regime, an important opportunity has been created to bring this cooperation to a new level.

Bartchikov underlined that the agreements reached at the fifth summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states in August in the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, are related to future interactions of these countries.

The Russian official said about the holding of the first workshop of the group of the Caspian littoral states in Baku that the meeting will review the implementation of the decisions of the fifth presidential summit.

The head of the Russian delegation at the summit also referred to ways of determining the base line in the Caspian Sea from the main issues discussed by the summit.

The two-day summit of Caspian Sea Supreme Working Group was held in Baku on Tuesday with participation of the Islamic Republic of Iran delegation headed by Reza Nazar Ahari, Director General of the Office for the Coordination of Bilateral Political Relations and Regional Initiatives of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
