Chinese FM lauds Zarif's 'loud, clear' defence of Iran, says he is famous in China

Beijing, Feb 19, IRNA - Chinese state councillor praised Iranian foreign minister’s “loud and clear” defense of Iran’s rights at the Munich Security Conference last week, saying he’s “famous in China” now.

“I saw on television how you defended the rights of Iran loud and clear at the Munich Security Conference. I think an audience of hundreds of millions of Chinese also watched what you said and you are a famous person now,” Wang Yi told Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif in brief remarks in front of reporters in the Chinese capital.

“I would like to take this opportunity to have this in depth strategic communication with my old friend to deepen the strategic trust between our two countries and to ensure fresh progress of the bilateral comprehensive and strategic partnership,” he said.

Yi added that Chinese President Xi Jing Pi’s 2015 visit to Iran elevated bilateral relations to strategic ties.

“Our relationship with China is very valuable to us. We consider the comprehensive strategic partnership between Iran and China as one of our most important relations,” Zarif said, also in remarks in front of the media.

Iranian foreign policy chief is in Beijing accompanying a high-level delegation that includes Iran’s speaker of parliament, Ali Larijani, Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh, Economy Minister Farhad Dezhpasand as well as Abdolnaser Hemmat, Governor of Central Bank of Iran.

Two top lawmakers are also accompanying Larijani during his visit to China.
