Pakistan respects sovereignty of Iran: Pak FM

Islamabad, Feb 18, IRNA -- Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi says his country respects sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Qureshi said he had spoken to his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif to review the recent terror attack on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in southeastern Iran.

“I had a word with the Iranian Foreign Minister yesterday and I assured him that Pakistan was very upset and condemns the tragic incident that took place,” he said.

He said: We have rejected and we have always condemned such activity. “Iran is our neighbor and we would not cause any problem for them,” Qureshi added.

“We respect their sovereignty and their territorial integrity and I am sure they respect ours,” foreign minister said.

He went on to say: if there are issues, we can discuss, and if they have any evidence they can share it with us, we will be helpful.

“We have been dealing with such situations in past, we have cooperated with each other to overcome these difficulties and we could do so in the future as well,” said the minister.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry had summoned Pakistan's ambassador to Iran Riffat Masood over the recent terrorist attack.

A suicide attack on a bus carrying the Islamic Republic Guards Corps (IRGC) personnel martyred 27 and wounded 13 in southeastern Iran on February 12. A terrorist group so-called Jaish al-Adl, affiliated to Al-Qaida, claimed responsibility for the incident.

Pakistan media has also reported that a Pakistani delegation would now travel to Tehran to discuss Iranian concerns over the terror attack.
