With the end of the third round of the Star Cup and the brilliant performance of Alireza Firoozjeh, Iran’s chess achieved a new record, and for the first time in Iran's history, there are two representatives in the list of the world's top 100 chess players.
Alireza Firoozja, 15-year-old Iranian star in the tournament, attained 5.5 points out of 8 games (3 victories, 5 draws and no defeat) and 17.2 increase of rating reached to live rating of 2656.5 to be listed among the world's top 100 chess players. At age 15, he was ranked 97 in the world to become the youngest player on the list.
Prior to Firoozje, Parham Maqsoudlou was ranked among the world's top 100 chess player with a rating of 2,666. He added 6.6 points to his international rank. Also, Mohammad Amin Tabatabai, with a 5.2-point increase in ratings, managed to up his international rank to 2,600.
