Over 300kg of opium busted in central Iran

Yazd, Feb 17, IRNA- Police in central Iran seized more than 300 kilograms of opium hidden in a passenger car.

The narcotics were seized by police forces in Bafq, 100 kilometers east of the central city of Yazd. They say they've detained one individual, who was trafficking 312 kilograms of opium from the eastern parts of the country [on Afghan and Pakistani borders] into the city.

Yazd province, in the center of Iran, lies at the heart of the North-South Corridor. It’s frequently used by drug traffickers to carry narcotics from southern or southeastern provinces to the north of the country to be later shipped to Europe.

Yazd saw a 19% rise in drug seizures in 2016 in comparison to a year before, according to officials.
