Merkel supports JCPOA at Munich's annual security conference

Tehran, 16 Feb, IRNA - On the second day of the three-day Munich security conference in Germany, the Chancellor of Germany called into question the decision of the United States to leave Syria and referred to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as efficient agreement.

According to reporters and foreign media, Angela Merkel, during her speech on Saturday, questioned the withdrawal of the US troops from Syria, and said, “Is it right to withdraw troops from Syria immediately? Does not this measure strengthen Iran and Russia?

The German official also endorsed the JCPOA as was an effective agreement that deserved to uphold it.

According to IRNA, earlier EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini had already emphasized the commitment of the union to JCPOA.

On February 15 in Munich security conference, she noted, 'Maintaining a nuclear deal with Iran is a security issue.'

By the same token, the German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, repeated the commitment of the European states to the nuclear deal, saying, 'Without a deal, the region will not be safer and will inevitably be closer to a clear confrontation. '
