UN chief issues concerns over poverty in Gaza

Tehran, Feb 16, IRNA – UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned against humanitarian crisis and serious poverty threatening over 2 million in Gaza Strip.

According to Palestinian media Ma'an News Agency, Guterres made the remarks addressing Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP).

Guterres stressed that the two million Palestinians of the Gaza Strip “remain mired in increasing poverty and unemployment, with no access to adequate health, education, water and electricity”, leaving young people with “little prospect of a better future”.

He also urged the Israeli regime to stop violence against Palestinian protesters in the peaceful March of Return rallies in Gaza borders.

'The Great March of Return' protests started on March 30th by thousands of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, which have suffered from a decade-long Israeli siege, who took to the borders to demand their right of return as refugees to their original homelands, now in present-day Israel.

Some 267 Palestinians have been killed and over 27,000 Palestinians wounded by live ammunition since the demonstrations' inception.
