Sanctions not hampering tourism industry in Iran: VP

Tehran, Feb 12, IRNA - Vice President and Head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Ali Asghar Munesan says the problems and sanctions imposed by the United States did not prevent the growth of this industry, but also statistics show the growth in this industry.

On the eve of the opening ceremony of the 12th International Exhibition of Tourism and Related Industries at the permanent venue of International Exhibitions of Tehran on Tuesday, Munesan while referring to the tourism industry's capacity to create jobs said that the arrival of tourists to Iran now exceeded 6 million, and this figure seems to reach 7 million tourists by the end of the current Iranian year.

He added, “Iran's economy needs to have other incomes, such as the tourism industry, along with oil, non-oil revenues and taxes.'

The vice president announced the interest of domestic and foreign investors in investing in the tourism industry in Iran, adding that this is a sign of growth in the tourism industry in Iran.

According to Munesan, investment in the tourism sector in Iran is booming, and 2,000 projects are underway.
