Iranian diplomat calls for expansion of Tehran-Harare ties

Tehran, Feb 12, IRNA – Iran's Ambassador to Zimbabwe Ahmad Erfanian stressed the need for expanding all-out ties between the two countries on Monday, it was reported on Tuesday.

Erfanian made the remarks in a meeting with Chitsaka Chipaziwa, the head of Europe and Americas section of Zimbabwe Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ministry, on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Harare.

Pointing to the Islamic Republic of Iran's great achievements during the past four decades, Erfanian said the imposed sanctions on Iran would not work and hinder the country's progress in different arenas.

He referred to Iran-Zimbabwe cordial relations, voicing Tehran's willingness to expand its economic and trade ties with Harare.

Chipaziwa, for his part, congratulated the Iranian government and nation on the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, calling for reinforcement of mutual ties between the two countries.

The ceremony was attended by several Iranian and Zimbabwean military and political officials, businessmen, foreign diplomats and Iranians residing in this African country.

Millions of people across Iran gathered on the streets to mark the anniversary of 1979 revolution on 22 Bahramn (Feb 11), which replaced Second Pahlavi regime with an Islamic Republic under Ayatollah Khomeini.
