China state news agency hails Iranian massive turnout on anniversary of Islamic Revolution

Beijing, Feb 11, IRNA – Hundreds of thousands of Iranians attended nationwide rallies on Monday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, China’s state Xinhua news agency reported.

The rallies in the Iranian cities were coupled with anti-US sentiments reflected in the slogans, the report said.

In the capital Tehran, people poured to the streets, chanting anti-US and anti-Israeli slogans and carrying images of Imam Khomeini, late founder of the Islamic Republic, and his successor and the incumbent Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Xinhua’s report added.

This year's demonstrations come against the US withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal last May and re-imposition of tough sanctions on the country later.

Ayatollah Khamenei had called for a 'glorious' and massive turnout to mark the anniversary of the Revolution and condemn the 'hostile' moves of the United States against the Islamic Republic, Xinhua said.
