Iran FM: Warsaw confab doomed to fail

Tehran, Jan 10, IRNA – On the Warsaw conference, the US has retreated from its anti-Iranian stances; however the conference is doomed to fail before being held, said Iran's minister of foreign affairs on Sunday.

'The US did a great deal to hold the anti-Iranian meeting in Warsaw, but they have retreated from their stances and that's why they changed the name of the meeting and announced that it is not against Iran,' said Mohammad-Javad Zarif talking to reporters in Tehran on Sunday.

Zarif said the US has announced that the country's vice president will participate in the event, so by all appearances, their first move has failed.

'The US is trying to make up for the atmosphere formed against them, so it seems the meeting is not being held as they wish.'

Saying that no Iranian authorities have been invited to the meeting, Zarif added, 'The meeting is doomed to fail before kickoff.'

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on his recent visit to West Asia that Poland and the US would co-host a conference on peace and stability in the Middle East on February 13-14.

The two governments said the conference would focus on terror, extremism and missile proliferation in the region and threats posed by proxy groups, activities Washington has accused Iran of engaging in or promoting.
